What happened to the latest chapters of New Dogs on Fanfiction.net and a few other things

-- I've been trying to update New Dogs on Fanfiction.net, but the struggle is real. My Microsoft Office license expired a month or so ago, but since I've switched to using Google Docs to write stuff, it doesn't really matter. Plus Google Docs is actually free. Back when I did have Microsoft Office, it was just simply a matter of changing the .docx file into a .doc document under the "save as" field and then uploading it to the site, but the system's so finicky that updating multichapter fics there is a chore now. I keep getting error messages even though I've tried uploading new chapters as a .rtf or copy and pasting it. C&P did work, but then when I moved on to the next step, the new document wasn't there. But I was able to post Hell Is Paved With Good Intentions just fine.

I still have lots of praise for FF.net and think it's a viable source for reading and posting fanfic, but they make it hard because the site has gotten so janky at this point. I mean, on my end the sixth chapter of New Dogs doesn't even come up. I just get an error message. I saw a lot of people saying just just keep hitting "enter" until FF.net accepts your story, but I can't continuously do that because of issues with my hands.

-- So now that that one-shot is done, the next one will be much lighter in tone. I honestly don't know when I'm going to get around to writing up the notes for Hell is Paved. I have a lot to say about the topic of xenofiction and how the subject of predator/prey dynamic has been handled in animal-centric worlds.

-- The one bad thing about choosing not to engage in fan communities means you have no way of finding out if somebody out there might've saved some fan art or a fanfic that you really love but was taken, because you have no clue who's safe to approach and who isn't. At this point, any cool fic or art gets saved to a flash drive/cloud/etc.

May 2026 progress report

Second chapter of New Dogs went up Monday!

One fic idea of mine's that's risen to the forefront and is currently taking up much of my attention is a crossover I mentioned several pages back titled A Horse Of A Different Color, an Elena of Avalor/My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic. Also, there's a one-shot idea that I'd like to complete at some point in the near future. It's one of the more grim (albeit with a point) plot bunnies I've had, and for that reason I kinda just wanna get it out there before moving on to more hopeful stuff.

In other news, I'm hoping to get started on story notes and finish up Antoine's Character Corner. 

Latest RR story *finally* ready for public viewing!

The prologue for New Dogs, New Tricks is up on Fanfiction.net and A03! I did say that it was gonna be little bit longer before it got posted because it needed to be proofed a second time. But later I was just sitting there thinking to myself "Man, I'm ready to just move on from NDNT and focus on something new." That's not to say that I hate the story or anything -- had a lot of fun writing for these characters -- but I really wanna move on other ideas now. Fic's mostly done anyway.

Also, as somebody who prefers FF.net to A03, it's pretty sad seeing how the site seems just barely held together with string and chewing gum these days. Seems like the spammers and other issues ran a lot of people off. 

January 2026 progress report

Just wanted to do a progress report while I'm working on the next Character Corner.

New Dogs, New Tricks: I decided that enough of the rough was completed and I could go ahead and start the first round of proofing. Once I'm through with that, I'm going to let it sit for a week, then go over it a second time. Then after that I'll start posting it chapter by chapter. 

I decided that since I'm not just doing this but also working on a second story, I'm going to hold off on working on any more one-shots until I get New Dogs done. 

Speaking of, that aforementioned second story is a multichapter fic for Sonic The Hedgehog. I'm not sure how long it'll actually be -- definitely more than three or four chapters. Working on Predatory Drift made me miss writing for my favorite StH character. The premise for this new story is pretty... well, weird, and I'll talk more about it in a future post.

An actual proper status report for December 2025

Forgot to wish readers Happy Thanksgiving last time, so Happy (belated) Thanksgiving, or whatever it is you may celebrate in November. :)

New Dogs, New Tricks: Almost there! It's maybe like 97% complete, I'm just filling in a few blank spaces here and there, as it were.

My brain also decided "Yeah, you definitely need to start on two new stories." One is yet another crossover one-shot, and the other's a multichapter story.

Also been working on notes for Predatory Drift and a new Character Corner entry.

In honor of the spooky season, I've written a little story: click me! Just be warned, it does get dark. BTW, from here on out all my Sonic stuff will only be uploaded to A03 (I need to post that announcement on my Fanfiction.net account as well).

I do have my concerns if readers will understand the intent behind the story. I can see people going "Sally's a martial artist/blademaster/whatever, I don't understand why she doesn't fight back and get away." And it's like, okay, but that's not the point of the story. Predatory Drift is not a traditional straightforward action-adventure story like many other Sonic stories are, it's psychological horror. Think like a Shirley Jackson story, Psycho, The Shining, Hereditary, The Babadook, etc, in that readers are supposed to be feeling a sense of dread and such, especially when the climax hits. That's not going to happen if Sally's up there kung fu fighting, y'know? 

Also, I wouldn't dare post PD on deviantART or FF.net. If I did, I'd more than likely end up having to go into hiding Salman Rushdie-style.

Yeah, so turns out that I'm not as close to finishing New Dogs, New Tricks' rough draft as I thought I was. Amazingly enough, watching something on YouTube kinda disrupted my plans, but in this case it's actually a good thing because it's hopefully gonna make the story not only more interesting to follow, but better explain certain character motivations as well.

July 2025 status report

I'm going to be shutting down my Buzzly account eventually, just because it's not a good idea to have a bunch of unused accounts just floating around the internet. I plan to do the same for my original deviantART account, though I need to go through my favorites there first so I can fave them for the current dA account (which is also no longer in use, as in I quit posting to it some years back).  

The nature of the online art community is so... dead (on top of all the other problems present). Like nobody replies to anything anymore unless you're a super popular artist, and people are just really unfriendly in general nowadays. I don't think that's purely a dA or Buzzly thing either, I just think that's an online art community thing. Makes me pretty happy that my primary focus for all these years has been on my writing, as opposed to art.

But I will be setting up shop over on Pillowfort. I'll I'll drop a link here once it's active, but I'm going to wait until I've drawn some new stuff. I've been wanting to practice sketching my newly revamped Road Rovers OCs lately.

Meanwhile, in writing related news...

New Dogs, New Tricks: Maybe 95% finished? I'm hoping to have the rough draft for this bad boy finished by either this month or the next. So close!

Still doing a lot of brainstorming for both original and fan stuff (namely STARS, Sonic The Hedgehog, a Friendship Is Magic/Disney crossover that's actually one of the two fic ideas referenced in my last update here, and a webcomic called Cloudscratcher).

May 2025 status report

New Dogs, New Tricks (Road Rovers): 80% - 90% complete. I'm in the middle of working on two major scenes. After this there's a third somewhat shorter scene which'll basically serve as connective material between the midpoint and the conclusion.

Once this particular fic's done, there's a one-shot I'm aiming to finish up. Then I'll be moving on to New Dogs' sequel and getting started on plotting out two multiparter fics for two different fandoms.

March 2025 status report

New Dogs, New Tricks (Road Rovers) - 70% - 75% complete. ALSO I went ahead and wrote out a few snippets of dialogue and scene ideas for the follow-up to this story.

Also wrote a little bit for a one-shot. It'd be really awesome if I got both these stories done this year.

January 2025 status report

Happy New Year's one and all, hope everybody had a good one! The rough draft for New Dogs, New Tricks is roughly around 50 - 55% done. The rising action (including a number of the fight scenes and traps the RR face) and climax still need to actually be worked on, but I feel like I'm cooking here.

Since this is the fic I've had the most muse for as of late I've just been leaning into it. I might also start on the follow-up story afterwards just because I'm feeling really excited for it.

Still brainstorming and planning out other things on the side too, like a couple of Disney-related things, the Sonic reboot, and one of my original concepts. One-shots are still hard to do. I've thought about just doing a list of all my one-shot ideas that I'd like to write and the various roadblocks I keep running into with them.

And I still draw, although I haven't done anything in the last few months because of real life obligations. I would like to get back into it at some point though.

October 2024 status report

- Still working on New Dogs, New Tricks.

 - A few months ago I said I had a one-shot for a '90s movie in the works. The rough draft is (mostly) done, but the entire thing still feels... incomplete to me? And I might've gone and got distracted by this anime I used to watch, and want to do a short prompt fill crossing it over with Gargoyles, so, yeah lol. 

- I've been worldbuilding for stuff like my Sonic reboot, a My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic AU, and my original stuff. 

- I'm in the process of working on the next entry for Character Corner.

- Regarding my old New Lease fic, I'm not sure what I want to do with it at this point. I have been seriously considering going ahead and just canceling it. The other Extinctioners-centric story I posted was removed (yeah, fanfics for a hyper-obscure niche furry comic, dry your tears everybody). Long story short, I no longer want to engage or associate with Extinctioners for personal reasons. If anybody cares enough, then I may post a summary of what I was planning to do with New Lease, since I'm doubtful I'll ever return to actively writing on it (even though the main character, who's from a completely different franchise, is one of my favorite fictional characters). 

July 2024 status report

Still hard at work on my two multiparter stories. In regards to how they're going... they're going, haha. I also have an unedited (very) rough draft done for yet another one-shot. This time it's for a movie from the mid-90s aimed at an older audience, so I don't think it'll get very many eyes on it.

And I haven't forgotten about the second half of the Exile character analysis!

February 2024 status report

• I've been working on New Dogs when able to, and I've regained a little bit of inspiration for A Brush With Danger, so I'll try to work on that one ASAP.

• There are still a few more character analysis posts I plan on bringing over -- the ones for Exile, Blitz, and Professor Callaghan.

October 2023 status report

New Dogs, New Tricks And A Brush With Danger are still being worked on, in addition to a one-shot idea I've had for a few years now. People who've heard me say stuff like this before may be rolling their eyes right about now, because I tend to struggle with one-shots, but the thing is 80% finished. It's more minimalist in terms of description and detail, while on the flip-side there's a lot of dialogue. Hopefully the story won't read like an info dump. I'll discuss it more when it's finished and posted, which'll probably be sometime this month. 

Working on it made me realize I didn't like my writing style for New Dogs, so I decided to rewrite its scenes but keep the dialogue. I can say that the beginning and the conclusion are mostly done.

Also I deleted Into The Spotlight off my FF.net account, and Gold With Envy will more then likely be following shortly. Both are extremely old and do not fit the current look of my AU, plus my OCs in the former fic have evolved significantly. 

Lastly, I'm looking at doing some "just shooting the breeze" type posts for this blog, like talking about my present stance on romance and the whole "shipping" scene.

Here's what's up:

Firstly, fics will not be publicly posted until they're mostly if not entirely complete. What brought this decision on was my reading the user page of a certain FF.net author and agreeing with her thoughts about posting in a timely matter for readers. Seeing how my thoughts and ideas have actually garnered the interest of other fans has been both interesting and exciting for me, and I want to be able to finish more fics for them to enjoy. 

TL;DR: Sometime ago I decided that I didn't like making readers wait months on end for fic updates/or completion. So stories will be posted when they're done. It'll take longer, but will pay off in the end. :)

As for this blog, I will be re-posting relevant posts (story/setting lore, other info of note) here when I can. Also, last week a bad thunderstorm threw my computer's hard drive out of whack and I had to get it repaired (BTW, I cannot stand computer repairmen because I have yet to meet an actual nice one). Prior to that whole disaster I felt my writing had been moving along at a nice clip, and I could see both respective plots playing out in my imagination.

In other news, this is something I didn't really go into a lot of detail about before, but I've decided to just go ahead and do a proper AU of Sonic The Hedgehog called Sonic And The Guardians Of Acorn. This does mean I won't be working on anything Knight Errand-related anymore. My sincerest apologies to people who were invested in that setting -- I love that folks enjoyed the story so much -- but it was becoming too much of a headache to try and explain away all of Archie's plot holes, figure out why X was Y or why those particular characters had been separated from their families, etc (and KE was supposed to be sort of a melding of Archie and SatAM with AU elements). By comparison, working on S&TGOA has been vastly easier and more fun as well. 

S&TGOA will be a hard reboot, so none of this "oh, I have memories of the other timeline!" junk like in New Wave Genesis (IMO, if you're gonna reboot something, then just cut the strings and properly reboot it already). I have a character lineup done, and have written some basic profiles for Dr. Robotnik and most of his crew. I'm on the fence about whether or not I should include Thunderbolt the chinchilla in with them... might be funny for Agent Stone to have a rival for "world's biggest Robotnik simp".
